North Dakota

The state of North Dakota is anxiously awaiting the deployment of the statewide wide area network for use by all state and county government entities and every K-12 district in the state! This project will bring ATM T1 service to the front door of every K-12 school district in North Dakota. This connectivity for each and every K-12 district will allow us to ensure equal and robust access to every student in our K-12 districts. It will also offer more schools the opportunity to add distance learning through interactive video to the options that students have for electives.

Another change to the look of education technology in North Dakota includes the North Dakota Education Telecommunications Council (ND ETC). Current legislation in the state Senate has been approved (and sent to the House) that would move this group to the North Dakota Information Technology Department (ITD). The ETC has been in charge of educational technology funding and policy, under the direction of the Department of Public Instruction, since its inception in the late 1980's. This legislation would change the name of the group to the Education Technology Council, change the makeup of the council, move the council's budget to ITD, and provide for a director of the council who would be our state's Chief Information Officer for K-12.
