Georgia Learning Connections has been designed and developed as a teacher Internet gateway for curriculum and instructional resources with the Georgia's Quality Core Curriculum (QCC) standards as its core. It provides easy to use accessibility to QCC objectives as well as materials such as lesson plans and Internet sites that are aligned to the objectives. The Georgia Department of Education with the extensive involvement of teachers has guided expertise on the teaching and learning content for the Georgia Learning Connections. The database and software developments have been managed by the Georgia DOE with contracted services.
Georgia Learning Connections can be viewed at www.glc.k12.ga.us. There one can find:
State academic content standards in a clearly organized, easily accessible,
and searchable format.
Lesson plans created by teachers for use in teaching content standards
with collateral teaching materials and student assessment options. Each lesson
plan includes strategies intended to help meet the needs of all students.
Teaching tools and media resources with immediate access to many reference
resources including graphs, diagrams maps and research sites linked to each
of the areas of the Quality Core Curriculum.
Special features in a Lesson Plan Builder, electronic tools for developing
high quality lesson plans. Teachers begin with a state academic standard and
create lessons online with the help of built-in templates, prompts and links
to teaching resources. An online lesson plan review process is now in place
for teachers to submit their most successful plans for posting on the GLC
site. This tool is also being used in school improvement efforts as teachers
learn to build and implement strong lessons.
Materials such as lesson plans and Web resources from educational programs
and agencies that have chosen to partner with the Georgia Department of Education
to bring the widest variety of resources to classrooms.
Sequences of lesson plans for a range of subjects and grades to provide
teachers with 180 days of quality lesson plans, from the first day of school
to the last.
Plans for the site include other resources to make this a one-stop information and planning site for teachers:
Comprehensive information on education initiatives such as technology integration
Curriculum connections for parents
Professional development, including on-line training on instructional improvement
strategies that use QCC standards, criterion referenced test questions, and
resources to improve the teaching and learning process.
Interactive activities and virtual field trips for students.
A Projects and Programs area that will feature the different curriculum
areas and have supporting information and materials to accompany the standards
for each area. This is already available, and will be continually growing.
A collaboration through the Southern Regional Educational Board to build a
Learning Connections initiative based on the Georgia Learning Connections
model to leverage development costs across multiple southeastern states is continuing.
A project goal is for states to share the costs of excellent and easy to use
electronic resources designed to assist classroom teachers in teaching to the
individual state's learning standards.
