Projects

SELECT Math
The SELECT Math Project will provide professional development activities and materials to enable teachers to effectively integrate technology into mathematics teaching and learning in middle level classrooms throughout Boston. This professional development model will provide ongoing, embedded support to teachers through face-to face workshops and courses, exchanges with colleagues, and mentoring through the use of the BPS Secondary Mathematics Department and Office of Instructional Technology staff.

iTEACH
Technology tools and web-based materials support teachers and students in meeting the Maine Learning Results, NCTM principles and standards for school mathematics, and ISTE technology literacy standards. This workshop, designed to support middle school teachers of mathematics, will explore a range of online applets, tools, web-based resources, and exemplary projects that utilize content centered technology application to support these goals.

Mission: Algebra -- Technology Promoting Student Success: A Resource for District Leaders
Mission: Algebra is designed to provide guidance to district and school leaders in addressing the question: How can technology support teachers and students in getting students ready for Algebra I? The intended audience is school leaders - those with the responsibility to make program decisions or to advise decision-makers about these topics:

The site includes standards-based classroom examples and is grounded in standards, informed by the experiences of practitioners, and guided by available research and theory.

In addition to school leaders, we expect the site will be of high interest to a wide variety of educators as they address the new federal priority of getting all students ready for challenging mathematical content in high school (No Child Left Behind legislation).

Interactive Math Applets

NCTM Illuminations -- Mathlets
http://illuminations.nctm.org/mathlets/index.html
Math•lets are math applets you can use to explore math and create interactive lessons. See our i-Math Investigations for examples of lessons that use Math•lets. (You can find some college-level mathlets in the Mathematical Association of America's online journal, JOMA.)

NCTM Illuminations -- i-Maths
http://illuminations.nctm.org/imath/index.html
i-Maths are online, interactive, multimedia math investigations. All i-Maths are built around interactive math applets, and some also include video clips. Complete i-Maths include student investigations, teacher notes, and answers. Some of the multi-day i-Maths also include video clips of teachers and students using the investigation, sample student work, assessment tasks, and related professional development activities.

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives
http://matti.usu.edu/nlvm/nav/vlibrary.html
A library of virtual manipulatives aligned with NCTM mathematics standards for grades PK-12 in the areas of number, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data & probability.

Explore Math
http://www.exploremath.com/activities/index.cfm
Interactive Applets and Activities that create real-time correlations between equations and graphs that help students visualize and experiment with many of the major concepts from Elementary Algebra through Pre-Calculus.

Visual Fractions
