Example District
Local Flexibility Demonstration Program in Seattle Public Schools

|
Text (slide 15):
Seattle Progress to Date: Closing Observations and Comments
- In June 2004, the District participated in an "interim evaluation video
conference" with representatives of the U.S. Department of Education. A number
of examples were shared that highlighted how our Local-Flex program directly
benefited principals, teachers and students.
- Currently the District is completing an overall assessment of the impact
of the Local Flexibility program on student achievement.
- The District's Local-Flex Demonstration Program Annual
Performance Report was completed and submitted to the U.S. Department of Education, November
5, 2004.
- Based upon informal comments from building level and central office staff,
we believe the investment in the Local Flexibility Demonstration Program
has been well worth the effort. We believe that it will become even more
valuable to the District in the future as we struggle to meet the academic
needs of all of our students while facing potential reductions in local and
federal funding and increasing demands to provide high quality schools.
