One School District's Experience with Local-Flex - The Seattle Success StoryArchive of a Horizon Wimba Webcast...online event, held 12/01/04On the 1st of December 2004 NEIRTEC and WestEd’s SchoolsMovingUp featured a free online event, "One School District’s Experience with Local-Flex – The Seattle Success Story." Description of EventWith regard to the No Child Left Behind Act, there is often talk about how prescriptive it can be. This interactive presentation with Jay Iman, Grant Manager and Jane Goetz, Director of Curriculum and Professional Development, both from the Seattle Public Schools, provided practical information on the Local-Flex provision available to districts interested in maximum funding flexibility through consolidation of certain local-level federal funds they already receive, to fulfill any educational purposes under the Elementary and Secondary Schools Act, reauthorized in 2001 as the No Child Left Behind Act. The flexibility goes beyond that provided with Ed-Flex and Transferability. During this online event, Iman and Goetz shared Seattle's experience including the decision-making process, benefits, challenges and progress of the district to date as they completed their first full year utilizing the Local-Flex provision to accomplish district educational goals to ensure that all children succeed.
